Friday, November 25, 2016 - The Radio-Canada Tree of Hope Radiothon, the Tree of Hope Campaign’s biggest fundraising event, has been a huge success again this year. Thanks to the incredible generosity of partners and the public, the campaign reached its goal of raising $1.5 million. Important projects will receive funding thanks to New Brunswickers’ support.
“This is one of the most emotional moments of my life. During the past few weeks, I have met people who have shared their story with me. Most of them had one thing in common: hope. That’s what the Tree of Hope is all about. I am living proof that donating to the campaign can make an enormous difference in the quality of care offered to New Brunswickers. I cannot say thank you enough—to those who supported me in my own fight, and to the thousands who donated to the Tree of Hope Campaign,” says 2016 Campaign Co-Chair and cancer survivor Denis Richard.
This year’s proceeds will fund major improvements to the Surgical Unit for oncology patients, enhancements to the two newest multileaf collimators, updates to equipment in regional satellite units, essential upgrades to the Mgr. Henri-Cormier Lodge, and pediatric leukemia research.
The Radio-Canada Tree of Hope Radiothon was broadcast from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on ICI Radio-Canada Première, live from CCNB Dieppe. During the 10-hour show, hosts Amélie Gosselin and Samuel Chiasson were joined by campaign Co-Chairs Denis Richard and Robert Maillet, as well as several colleagues from ICI Acadie.
“The radiothon is a very special day for all the station’s employees. It’s a project that unites us all, and we are very proud of it. I’m always impressed by the generosity of everyone involved,” says Richard Simoens, Director, ICI Acadie.
The CBC also participated by hosting the Tree of Hope Radiothon from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Hosts Jonna Brewer and Vanessa Blanch welcomed the public to the studio and set the tone for the day by raising $186 814.
Again this year, several musical artists performed during the big event, including Amélie Hall, Christian Kit Goguen, Danny Boudreau, Denis Richard, George Belliveau, Ginette Landry, Ginette Marie, Isabelle Pelletier, Joannie Benoit, Joey Robin Haché, Kevin McIntyre, Les Méchants Maquereaux, Mario LeBreton, Simon Daniel and Troiselle.

Claude Paré, Provincial Vice President of the Tree of Hope Provincial cabinet, is thrilled with the outcome.
“It’s fantastic! New Brunswickers proved once again this year what a special place the Tree of Hope Campaign holds in their hearts. Since the campaign’s humble beginnings in 1989, close to 24 million dollars has been raised and invested here in New Brunswick to improve the quality of care offered, patient comfort, and cancer research. I am extremely proud of the result, and I can tell you that the Provincial cabinet is very grateful to all those who gave their time and money.”
Cédric Frenette, a 5-year-old leukemia patient from Memramcook, has become a true ambassador of the 2016 Tree of Hope Campaign with his message of hope and courage. His comment says it all:
“Thank you for all you do for us.”
