MONCTON, NB – Wednesday, September 23, 2015 – Under the theme The Power of Hope, the Tree of Hope Campaign was officially launched this morning by actors Luc LeBlanc and Robert Maillet, Campaign Co-Chairs.

For the occasion, two launches took place simultaneously at École Polyvalente W.A. Losier in Tracadie and École Donat-Robichaud in Cap-Pelé.

The overall goal is to raise $1.7 million.

“We have reached impressive levels since launching the first Tree of Hope Campaign in 1989 in terms of screening, treatments, patient care and research, but cancer never goes away. It is a distressing illness and having hope is so very important in 2015,” says Luc LeBlanc.

For Robert Maillet, new Co-Chair, the Tree of Hope Campaign demonstrates just how the strength of a community, determined and united, can overcome many challenges. “I am amazed to witness the determination of people in our province, regardless of their age, region or language, to work together for the purpose of supporting and improving outcomes for cancer patients. When I look at all of the goals that we have achieved, I see the true power of hope!”

The funds will be used for several projects, including:

- Furniture restoration and installation of air-conditioning systems in the Mgr-Henri-Cormier Lodge’s new section.
- Renovation of the chemotherapy area on Unit 4D
- Upgrade of the multi-leaf collimators on 2 out of the 3 accelerators in order to improve the resolution of these leafs that establish the treatment fields.
- Pediatric Leukemia Research to determine a better treatment

The Tree of Hope Radiothon hosted by Radio-Canada will air live Friday, November 27 from 9am-7pm at CCNB-Dieppe. Samuel Chiasson and Amélie Gosselin will host the show this year surrounded by their colleagues and several artists. As was the case in previous years, CBC Radio One will broadcast the English portion of the Radiothon from 6:00-9:00am
